About this course

C120 is designed for the beginning underwriter. You will start with an overview of the underwriter’s role as an investor of shareholder capital on behalf of the insurer. You will see how that role has evolved and how the underwriter accepts or rejects risk for the insurer within parameters both set by the insurer and imposed by the external environment.

Who should register

This course can be taken as one of three Applied Professional courses required for your CIP. If you have already completed other Applied Professional courses, you can take this course as an elective.

Before you take C120: Underwriting Essentials, we recommend that you have taken the following courses:

Upcoming classes

Exam

Each CIP course has a final exam worth at least two-thirds of the course grade. The exam can be written online with virtual proctoring or in person at one of our exam centres (subject to availability).
