Explore risk perception and evaluation in hull insurance, charterers’ liability, and protection and indemnity (P&I) insurance, along with loss prevention and risk management.
Study the roles of various parties in the claims process; the use of marine survey reports and other documents; and the application of Institute Time Clauses and War and Strikes Clauses.
Examine claims-handling by P&I clubs and the settling of liability claims for ports, terminals, ship repairers, ship builders, and charterers.
Marine texts are supplied by the Chartered Insurance Institute in the UK and accompanied by a Canadian commentary.
Each CIP course has a final exam worth at least two-thirds of the course grade. The exam can be written online with virtual proctoring or in-person at one of our exam centres (subject to availability).
Please note the C59 exam format is changing effective July 2025 exam session. The new exam format will include a combination of multiple-choice and constructed-response questions.
