Strata corporations are required to maintain director and officer (D&O) liability insurance to insure against allegations of wrongful conduct on the part of strata council and/or the property manager. Presenters will discuss common policy wordings found in D&O and strata insurance policies including first party coverage and coverage for third party liability. Learn about common types of claims brought by claimants that are covered under these policies, relevant emerging risks, and legal developments with respect to the adjudication of those claims. Chris’ litigation and dispute resolution practice is concentrated on defence for property and liability insurers, the representation of governance bodies of strata corporations and housing cooperatives, directors’ and officers’ liability, general insurance disputes and professional negligence claims, as well as prosecuting and defending matters involving the automotive industry. Chris has appeared as legal counsel in the Provincial and Supreme Courts as well as the Court of Appeal. In addition, Chris has represented clients in front of various tribunals on numerous occasions, including the Human Rights Tribunals and the Civil Resolution Tribunal.
Julia is an experienced advisor to both domestic and international insurers, with a focus on financial lines and casualty coverage matters. She regularly advises clients on claims involving directors’ and officers’, errors and omissions, commercial general liability, cyber, and property insurance. Whether assessing coverage for a claim, litigating a coverage dispute, or drafting policy wording, Julia offers timely, practical, and customized advice to her clients. Her litigation background also provides a significant advantage for insurers in need of monitoring counsel and litigation support in Canada.
