Rescheduling
A candidate may reschedule an exam booking up to 24 hours prior to the exam start time at no charge. Log in to the Institute's exam portal and select Reschedule.
If the request to reschedule is received less than 24 hours prior to the exam start time, a $50 fee applies.
Rewrite policy
Candidates are eligible to rewrite within the 8-month period following their first examination per exam provider. Candidates after two failed attempts are subject to an 8-month waiting period following their second failed attempt with the same exam provider.
Exam results will be invalid and will not count towards licensing if an individual attempts any exam(s) more than twice in an 8-month period with any single exam provider. No refunds will be provided for such individuals.
After completing a RIBO exam, candidates cannot schedule a second attempt at the same exam within the next 14 days. Note that if a candidate attempts to write the same RIBO exam within 14 days, their exam results will be nullified and their exam fee will not be refunded.
Score Reports and Exam Results
Score reports show official exam results and are released 14 days after completing an exam. Candidates will receive an email when their score report is released with instructions how to download it for submission to RIBO.
Examinations are routinely reviewed for irregularities and/or breaches of examination rules, which may cause a delay in the release of a candidate’s score report. If a candidate’s score report is not released after 21 days, they will receive an email that their score report is delayed.
No further information will be available about delays in releasing individual exam results and score reports. Therefore, candidates should be patient and not contact IIC or RIBO if their score report is not released after 14 days.
Candidates whose examinations indicate irregularities and/or breaches of examination rules may have their exam results nullified. If a candidate’s exam results are nullified, they will not receive a score report. At times, a candidate’s exam results may be nullified after their score report has been released which will invalidate the score report. In both cases, candidates will be notified about their options.
For the following exams, candidates will receive unofficial exam results (the overall percentage scored on the exam) by email within 2 business days of their exam date:
- RIBO Level 1 – Entry-Level Broker Exam
- RIB Act, Regulations, and By-laws Equivalency Exam
- RIBO Ontario Automobile Equivalency Exam
- FSRA Ontario Agent Automobile Equivalency Exam
Absence
A candidate will be marked absent if they fail to log in to the exam portal at the time of their scheduled exam. The candidate may request to reschedule the exam for a fee of $50.
Note – an absence is not counted as an attempt under RIBO’s rewrite policy.
Technical issue
If a candidate is unable to write a scheduled exam due to a technical issue related to their own computer system, internet connection, or fails to meet any other system or set-up requirements described on our Virtually proctored exams page, the candidate may request to reschedule the exam for a fee of $50. See Reschedule.
If the candidate is unable to take the exam due to a technical issue arising from the exam platform or proctoring service application, a new booking can be scheduled at no charge. It is the candidate's responsibility to request a new booking.
Legal name
If a candidate is denied access to write a scheduled exam because the name in their account profile does not match the name on their government issued ID, the candidate may request to reschedule the exam for a fee of $50. See Rescheduling.
It is the candidate's responsibility to request a new booking.
Accommodations
Licensing candidates with a documented disability or impairment (short-term/temporary or long-term/chronic) that substantially impacts their ability to participate equally in Insurance Institute examinations can request testing accommodations. Testing accommodations will be based on functional limitation(s) resulting from a documented disability or other restrictions due to a protected ground under human rights legislation that impact a students’ ability to take a midterm, test, or exam under standard conditions.
