There are 29 CIP courses and multiple formats to choose from. To learn more about the courses, please see the list below. Credit transfers may be available if you have prior insurance education.
To complete the program, you must successfully complete all course requirements and have at least one year’s work experience in property and casualty insurance or related financial services. Once you have met these requirements, your name will be put forward for election to CIP status, after which you will be permitted to use the post-nominal letters CIP.
Exams Passing the Other Than Life (OTL) Agent’s Exam is a requirement to become licensed as a general insurance agent in Ontario. The general insurance agent licence is regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).
The Insurance Institute of Canada administers licensing exams on behalf of the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO). Exams may be written online using a virtual proctoring service or in person at an Institute examination centre.
The Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is the premier course for people interested in working in Canada's property and casualty insurance industry. To earn your CIP designation you will complete 10 CIP courses developed by industry professionals and taught in a variety of learning modes.

Complete our three risk courses and earn your Risk Management Certificate. To grow your career further, pass the standardized exam for each course (administered by RIMS and separate from the IIC course exams) and you will earn your Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation.
Students who opt to take their exams online will connect to their exam using a personal computer or laptop in a location of their choice. They will be monitored by a live proctor throughout the exam via their webcam and microphone.
