How insurance licensing works in Canada Insurance is regulated at both the federal and provincial level in this country. The federal level is focused on ensuring the financial stability of insurance companies, and the provincial level deals with the licensing of individuals.
There are 29 CIP courses and multiple formats to choose from. To learn more about the courses, please see the list below. Credit transfers may be available if you have prior insurance education.
The Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is the premier course for people interested in working in Canada's property and casualty insurance industry. To earn your CIP designation you will complete 10 CIP courses developed by industry professionals and taught in a variety of learning modes.
The Insurance Institute of Canada administers licensing exams on behalf of the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO). Exams may be written online using a virtual proctoring service or in person at an Institute examination centre.
International university transcript + letter. If your university credentials are from outside Canada, then in addition to your transcript you will also need to obtain and submit a letter from a recognized comparative education service confirming evaluation of the university transcript.
