General agent/broker licences in Nova Scotia

Level 1 agent/broker licence

Our general insurance licensing program offers you the education required by the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance to obtain a level 1 agent/broker licence. The program uses the Insurance Institute’s General Insurance Essentials (GIE) textbooks and Atlantic Auto Supplement, but with a single exam for licensing purposes.

There are two options to obtain your level 1 broker/agent licence with the institute:

Pathways to level 1 licence

1. Complete the Level 1 licensing materials (includes General Insurance Essentials information)

a. Independent study
Ideal if you want to complete the level 1 licensing program quickly and you prefer to study at your own pace.

b. Online classes
Real-time instruction, interaction with your peers and a range of supplemental materials to support your learning.

2. Take our CIP equivalency classes for C11 and C130
Choose between our regular scheduled classes and fast-track options. Register on the Levels 2 & 3 CIP equivalency classes tab.

Learn at an accelerated pace

We offer classes in a 3-day and 5-day format for groups of five or more students. Our class packages include:

  • course textbooks
  • online resources
  • Level 1 exam fee
  • Institute of Nova Scotia membership

Private, in-house classes
