The Insurance Institute of Canada is contracted to provide broker licensing exams on behalf of Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO). Exams are offered both in-person at IIC locations and virtually proctored using your own computer at a private location of your choosing such as your home.

What information and documents do I need on exam day?

Member ID

Your IIC member ID and password to log into IIC's exam administration portal.

Government-issued photo identification

Students must present original, valid (not expired) government-issued photo identification (passport, Canadian driver’s licence, health card, Permanent Resident card) for identity verification before they can write their exam. Digital copies or photocopies are not permitted.

Students without original, valid government-issued photo identification will not be permitted to write their examination and will be required to reschedule subject to the rescheduling fee.

Matching names

The name on the government-issued photo identification must match the name the student used to register for the examination (the name in the Insurance Institute Member account), otherwise the student will not be permitted to write the examination and will be required to reschedule, subject to the rescheduling fee.

Booking your RIBO Exam

The cost of each RIBO exam attempt is $300. Each rewrite is an additional $300. This fee is separate from the RIBO licensing application fee (see RIBO Exam Policies).

Virtually proctored exams

Exam times are booked on a first-come, first-served basis, so schedule your exam immediately after registering.

What to expect after your exam

Score reports show your official exam results and are released 14 days after completing an exam. You will receive an email notification when your grade is ready to view. Exams are routinely reviewed for irregularities and/or breaches of examination rules, which may cause a delay in the release of your score report. If your exam results are nullified due to irregularities and/or a breach of examination rules, you will not receive a score report.

If you are successful in your Level 2 – Technical/Commercial or Level 2 – Technical Farm exam attempt: submit your score report and all other required documentation to RIBO by email to licensing@ribo.com to request the update to your license.

Please note: If the exam score is three marks or less from the pass mark, the written response questions will automatically be remarked before releasing your grade. This process can take up to two (2) weeks.

If you are unsuccessful: refer to RIBO’s rewrite policy. If you are eligible to rewrite, you can register again for the exam.
